Letters to Soldiers and Relay for Life
Two activities that we are very proud of is our students' involvement in the Letters to Our Soldiers Organization and the Relay for Life events.
The Letters to Our Soldiers Club started as a small group of students who realized the importance of sending cards, letters and news clippings to local soldiers who are deployed overseas. Now after a decade and countless letters and care packages, the Letters to Our Soldiers initiative has become one of the central pieces of our commitment to community service. With Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Howard, and a dedicated group of student leaders, the Letters to our Soldiers once again had a successful year of raising money to defray the cost of purchasing items and shipping packages to our soldiers. The club has also organized the Veteran’s Day assembly for the past several years. The program often features visits from veterans, musical tributes to our troops, and very moving student presentations.
The Relay for Life campaign was a huge success again this year with almost $5000 raised by high school students for the American Cancer Society. The main event of our campaign, is Relay Day. Nearly all students participate in the activity packed day in order to raise awareness for the need of Cancer Research and raise a substantial donation for the American Cancer Society. The Cancer Survivors’ Breakfast and Survivors’ Walk around the school are always heartfelt events that occur in the morning with afternoon activities ranging from musical performances to the annual faculty v. seniors softball, volleyball and basketball games.
