At the January 24th School Board Meeting, KCBA Architects' presentation to the community and the school board concluded the feasibility study phase of the district's elementary buildings. The final reports are included below for your review.
One of the options in the study is for the Halifax Area School District to sell both elementary schools and build a new school at an alternative site. The Board of School Directors has directed administration to continue working with KCBA to determine what suitable land is available for new construction. This certainly doesn't mean the school board is convinced that building a new school at a new location is the best option for addressing the needs of the elementary program. Rather, researching available land allows the board to consider all of the options before a final decision is made.
As you may be aware, developing and implementing a facilities improvement plan for all district buildings is an action step of the Stewardship Goal in the district's Comprehensive Plan. I am pleased with the progress thus far in achieving this goal and look forward to providing future updates as KCBA and administration complete the next assignment. A community meeting to present the findings will be scheduled for early spring. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me at 896-3416 extension 112 should you have any questions about the study and the options the school board is considering.
Thank you for your continued support of the Halifax Area School District.
